Arsenal’s flirtation with Leicester Riyad Mahrez continues despite claims that the Algerian attacker is set to sign a new deal at the King Power stadium.
The 25 year old was a revelation last term as the Foxes won an unexpected Premier League title, their first league title win in the club’s history. So impressive was his performance in Claudio Ranieri’s side, the attacker was named in the PFA team of the year and then became the first African to be named the PFA Player’s Player of the year.
Understandably speculation arose about his future, with talks of moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid filling the papers.
But closer to home Arsenal have been sniffing around Mahrez, with Arsene Wenger refusing to quell rumours by also praising the attacker.
Leicester have been insistent that Mahrez will be going nowhere, and it is thought that he is on the cusp of signing a new £100k a week deal. And following a post on Instagram today by Leicester’s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has killed the transfer.
The post is captioned by a supposed convo between himself and Leicester’s star man that pretty much ends Arsenal’s hopes of signing him:
