Man City have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras, after beating a host of clubs to his signature.
The 19 year old will remain in Brazil until January where he will move to England and join up with his new club.
Jesus was believed to be on the radar of a number of big clubs including rivals Man United, Barcelona as well as Inter Milan and Serie A champions Juventus, but City have pulled off somewhat of a coup beating them all to his signature on a 5 year deal worth £27m plus add-ons.
Upon completing the move to The Etihad, the youngster named “best newcomer” in the 2015 Serie A Campeonato said:
“Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I’m really pleased to sign.
“We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.
“I’m looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we’ll have a great future together!”
City fans will be able to get a proper glimpse of their new signing at the Olympics where it is expected that he will make up a front 3 that also includes Neymar as well as another young Brazilian striking sensation GabiGol.
Jesus can play in either of the front 3 positions, scoring 19 goals in 30 appearances for his former side this season.
The youngster has a big fan in another Brazilian scoring legend, with Ronaldo proclaiming that he and Gabigol will steal the headlines at the Olympic games saying:
“I am betting on two great talents that are still developing but already show a lot of skill: Santos’ Gabigol and Palmeiras’ Gabriel Jesus. And they haven’t even turned 20 yet.”
No pressure then!
