As Tottenham romped to a 4-0 win over Stoke last night, it appeared that a tide of change swept over the country because despite Leicester being top and many neutrals wanting to see this fairytale ending to one of the craziest title races in recent memory, it was silently agreed that Tottenham are in fact the better team, and by some distance.
Tottenham’s development under Mauricio Pochettino has been nothing short of remarkable with the Argentine manager transforming the team into a young, well oiled attacking machine that is also extremely stingy when it comes to conceding goals.
With a focus on youth, this imagining of Tottenham is one of the most exciting in years, without doubt more so than the marauding Bale side of a few years ago, and what makes it even more interesting is that there is still a lot more to comes from them.
They have used a player over 30 just once this season, with Michel Vorm coming in for the then injured Hugo Lloris on the opening day at Old Trafford, and the reliance on younger players has been to their benefit with an energy and exuberance flowing through a team that is being driven forward by the likes of 22 year olds Harry Kane and Eric Dier as well as 19 year old Dele Alli. Imagine this, Tottenham have been so good this season that last year’s revelation Nabil Bentaleb has been forced to take a bit part.
As stated, the sky is the limit for this side and people, England fans especially, will be keen to see just how they develop but just as important is what they are doing right now.
5 points off league leaders Leicester, Spurs would be worthy winners if they managed to overturn the Midlands’ club lead and these stats prove it!
I think after a number of false dawns the tide, and colour, in North London may have finally changed from red to white!
