Cundy: He’s not there yet but Kane is fighting to be the world’s best striker

Kane BournemouthA brace from Harry Kane against Bournemouth yesterday afternoon kept Tottenham in the title picture, as they closed the gap on league leaders Leicester back to 5 points.

After a slow start to his season, some called the 22 year old a one season wonder after his 31 goal haul last term. But the striker quickly found his feet and has now found the net 24 times for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Argentine came out praising his hitman labelling him the best striker in the world, some feel this is a tad premature but does the former Southampton manager have a point?

We asked Football Fanzone’s Jason Cundy about the goal getter and it appears he is a huge fan!

I’m not sure if I agree with Mauricio Pochettino’s claims that Harry Kane is the best striker in the world, but he can go on to be there. He has got everything; he can hold up the ball, run in behind defences, he’s good in the air, has a left foot, he is a powerful runner even if he isn’t the quickest and is quick with the ball at his feet. Most importantly he makes the hardest thing in the game look simple – putting the ball in the net.

I’d go as far as saying he is the best striker the country has produced since Shearer. Before people get their knickers in a twist I don’t look at Rooney as a number 9, he is more of a hybrid between a 9 and a 10 so whilst Rooney is the greatest goalscorer the country has seen and the most sensational teen the country has seen, for me Kane is a better striker.

If we look at the league, Kane and Aguero are in a league of their own. And that is saying a lot given that Aguero is one of two World Class players in England (along with Manchester United’s David De Gea). That said Kane gives more in build up play than Aguero, even if on his day Aguero is out of this world.

Right now Kane’s goals are firing Spurs towards the title although Leicester are doing a good job of holding them at bay. If Spurs do end up champions, he will have put in a goalscoring performance that rivals what Aguero did for City when they won the title and what Diego Costa did for Chelsea last season.

It will be exciting to see how he develops given his young age.
