I recently said that it is Alexis Sanchez, rather than Mesut Ozil, that is Arsenal’s best player, and his display on Saturday in the 5-1 win over West Ham confirmed this for me.
His impressive hat trick (as well as assist for Ozil to open the scoring) showed just why he is so important to Arsene Wenger’s side. He worked hard, created and scored goals and this season in general has shown his quality.
The audacity of his third goal speaks of a supremely confident player, as his feint sat West Ham keeper Darren Randolph down before gently lifting the ball over him. He is brilliant in one on one situations, providing some of the most clinical finishing I have seen in some time. That’s a part of his game that I really like actually, because once he gets away from you, you aren’t catching him. You saw it in the game with Chelsea where he got away from Cahill.
Sanchez gives them a chance to win the title and if he can stay fit this chance increases massively. Personally I still think they will fall away but he is top draw and the Chilean can be the difference between 1 point and 3.
The papers are saying that he and Ozil want parity with other top earning Premier League stars, well it’s time for Arsenal to bit the bullet and do all they can to keep him, even if it means breaking their wage structure, because that Arsenal side is a totally different team without him.
