Nigeria’s Premier League stars came to the rescue as Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Manchester City’s Kelechi Ihenacho scored in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 win over Zambia.
Iwobi’s rise to prominence has been nothing short or remarkable with the 20 year old a starter in an Arsenal side that could finally end the North London club’s 10 year plus wait for a Premier League title.
Supremely talented, Iwobi opted to play for Nigeria and in the World Cup 2018 qualifier opened the scoring for Gernot Rohr’s side.
Then his Premier League rival Kelechi Ihenacho doubled the West African side’s lead just before half time.
Ihenacho is one of the games most highly rated youngsters, holding his own in a star studded Manchester City side.
Making his international debut last year, Kelechi has an impressive 4 goals in just 6 appearances for the 2013 African Cup of Nations winners with 4 coming in 5 appearances in this calendar year.
With this sort of attacking talent at their disposal, Nigeria may start to find their way back to the forefront of African football after some recent disappointment.
