Whilst the senior sides played out a tense draw on Monday night at Anfield, Liverpool and Manchester United’s u23 sides put on an interesting affair despite the game finishing 1-1.
Liverpool started the game with a number of first team players with the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Danny Ings and Marko Grujic all getting minutes but it was Harry Wilson that shone with a cheeky backheeled goal to open the scoring.
Wilson, who made his Wales debut as a 16 year old, has been impressive this season with goals against Spurs and Chelsea and was again on the scoresheet when he deflected Pedro Chirivella shot past a helpless Sam Johnstone.
The briliantly improvised goal came seconds after Ings hit the post and gave Liverpool the lead in the 18th minute.
Liverpool were unable to hold onto the lead though as Josh Harrop brought United level from the penalty spot after Chirivella brought down United’s Scott McTominay in the 50th minute.
Liverpool were on the front foot for the majority of the game, and had it not been for a impressive display from Johnstone could have scored a few tonight.
