News that John Terry has been offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge has been met with glee by Chelsea fans, who had expected Sunday to be the last time they would see Terry at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player (even if he was suspended).
At the start of the year Terry revealed that he had not been offered a new deal, forcing Chelsea to come out and address the matter.
Chelsea admitted that yes, the club captain had been told that he would not be offered a new deal but that it was not set in stone and that he could still be at the club past the summer.
But as the season reached a disappointing end for last year’s champions, Terry still hadn’t been offered a new deal, leading most to believe that the man that had lead Chelsea into a new era of success under Roman Abramovich would be shown the door come June 30th.
A red card against Sunderland in a 3-2 defeat would have signalled a disappointing end to his 21 year association with the club, and fans were vocal in letting the club know how they felt about the treatment of their captain in the game against Liverpool during the week and it seems that their protests were heard.
During Guus Hiddink’s presser ahead of Sunday’s game against champions Leicester, the club revealed that Terry had been offered a new deal!
Chelsea fans on Twitter were jubilant, their leader would be staying to steady the ship under incoming manager Antonio Conte, and took to the social media platform to express their joy:
EDC tomorrow and John Terry offered a new contract day can’t get any better

Of course Chelsea were keen to stress the point that a deal had been offered but not agreed with the club captain contemplating the offer.
Chelsea through and through, Terry will likely be at the West London club next season but it remains to be seen with the contract on the table yet to be inked.
