Louis Van Gaal is deadly serious about bringing a megastar to Old Trafford and seemingly will break the bank to do so.
Last week the Manchester United manager spoke of a need for a superstar player at the club, citing the world class attacking players his rivals have amongst their ranks. The likes of Hazard, Aguero, Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo were all name dropped by the Dutchman and it seems he now wants one of his own.
The Sun claim that Van Gaal has twice bid a huge £100m to snatch Welshman Gareth Bale away from the Bernabeu but has twice failed.
The Spanish club claim that Van Gaal tried to break the world transfer record and sign the 25 year old, hoping to capitalise on a season where Bale’s stock seemed to fall after failing to live up to the heights of his first season where he helped Real achieve ‘La Decima’, a tenth European Cup.
Jeered and attacked by his own fans, it was thought that Bale could seek an escape from Spain but both club and player seem to be intent on improving on last year’s showing.
