Pep Guardiola set for Arsenal raid to kick off City reign

Man City have previous when it comes to snapping up Arsenal’s players, but with Pep Guardiola set to kick off his spell in charge of Man City with a raid of The Emirates, few Arsenal fans will be bothered to see this star go.

It is believed that Guardiola will attempt to lure Mikel Arteta to The Etihad to join his coaching staff, with the former Everton midfielder’s playing days drawing to a close.

Arteta last featured for Arsenal in a 2-1 win over Burnley in the FA Cup back in January, the last of 13 appearances this term and aged 34 time isn’t on his side as injuries continue to keep him sidelined.

But in his spell away from the game, Arteta has been doing his coaching badges, earning rave reviews behind the scenes for his work on the other side of the touchline.

Arsene Wenger has talked up his player’s coaching abilities previously, and in a shock move, rivals Spurs have also looked at taking him to White Hart Lane, confirming that the Basque midfielder is in high demand.

But as Spurs looked at him so did Man City and it appears that their interest is more concrete this time as they have returned in an attempt to lure him away again, with Pep hoping to add Arteta to his trusted staff of Carles Planchart, Domenec Torrent and fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura.

According to The Daily Mail, the two have had a relationship since the early 2000s when Pep was a seasoned Barca player whilst Arteta was coming through La Masia.

And now Pep is hoping to take advantage of his relationship to convince the 34 year old to return to the North West and work at City under him.

Arteta’s contract expires this summer after 5 years at Arsenal, and whilst fans won’t be sad to see Arteta the player go, there may be some grumbles about Arteta the highly touted coach leaving.
