With the agent of Porto striker Jackson Martinez confirming that his client’s release clause has been activated, it is believed that Arsenal will confirm their first signing of the summer this week.
Martinez has oft been linked with a move to the Premier League, with a host of clubs including Manchester United having previously registered interest in the Colombian.
But it appears Arsenal made their interest concrete this summer and he, along with Chelsea stopper Petr Cech, are believed to head the Gunners’ shopping list.
Today Martinez’s agent Henrique Pompeo confirmed that the striker’s €35m release clause had been activated and now minor details were being wrapped up before the move could be confirmed.
Speaking to Portuguese paper O Jogo, Pompeo said:
“There is a club that’s willing to pay €35m for the buy-out clause.
“The deal will be closed in the next few days.”
The club in question is believed to be Arsenal but The Daily Mirror claim that Arsenal will only be able to confirm the deal if they can offload dead weight in the form of Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo.
